Simeon ten Holt: Canto Ostinato (Jeroen van Veen)

he internationally renowned pianist Jeroen van Veen will play works around Canto Ostinato on Sunday 23 April. The most famous modern-classical work for keyboard instruments performed on only one grand piano by Jeroen van Veen. This music can change lives, as shown in the movie Over Canto.

Jeroen van Veen has already put this work on CD many times, but this work only really comes into its own when you experience live how this master pianist brings the Canto to life. Jeroen van Veen is famous for his toucher. He is a great advocate of Simeon ten Holt’s music. As a good friend, he visited the composer continuously for many years. The composer therefore praised his interpretation and stated several times that his versions, whether or not together with Sandra van Veen, were the best performances. One pianist, one grand piano and an ever-changing Canto Ostinato with Van Veen’s own composition Incanto 6 in the middle. A concert for young and old; sitting or lying down.

In 2016 Jeroen van Veen received a unique prize; no fewer than 100,000 CDs and LPs of the Canto Ostinato had been sold by then; unique in classical music!

In April 2016, Jeroen received the NPO Radio 4 Award 2016 from the radio program De Classics! According to the NPO Radio 4 jury: ‘With his music and striking reclining concerts, he reaches and captivates an exceptionally wide audience time and time again. With his unique choice of repertoire, concerts at special locations and his recognizable influences of jazz, blues, techno and trance in his music, he also manages to reach many young people. In addition, Jeroen van Veen is a gifted storyteller.
