Simeon ten Holt: Canto Ostinato (Kaspers/Hibma)
On June 21, the longest day of the year, the meditative Canto Ostinato by Simeon ten Holt will be performed in a unique location: in the old farm of Murk Nijdam, between the hay bales, near the Frisian village of Wommels.
Ten Holt’s Canto Ostinato has been a popular piece for years. The composition is known for taking away your sense of time, because of the repetitive, meditative music. This is also the case for the two pianists, Wiebe Kaspers and Johannes Hibma. “The location, in the middle of nature, enhances the experience of the music,” says Johannes. “Between the silence and the dust of the old barn, time fades away through the sounds of the Canto.” “A lying down concert is incredibly popular,” says Wiebe Kaspers, “and that is why we performed this piece of music as a lying down concert for the first time last year. Due to the weather, we moved to Murk’s farm, where during the concert a large owl flew over the audience at a beautiful moment. We hope to experience that again this time, of course.” The concert will take place on Midsummer’s Eve, at the Gruttoland farm, on the centuries-old Slachtedijk near Wommels.
