Simeon ten Holt: Canto Ostinato (Mallet Collective-Janssen)
Ten years ago, master pianist Ivo Janssen and the Mallet Collective joined forces at Het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. This iconic recording marked the beginning of a special tradition: the unique arrangement of Canto Ostinato for piano, two marimbas, and two vibraphones, in which the percussive keys and resonating melodies seamlessly blend together. To celebrate this 10th anniversary, this masterful performance returns to the stage. Making it extra special is that Ivo Janssen — who had actually already retired — is returning to the grand piano for this one-time concert, performing with 9 fingers. The anniversary concert takes place at a highly symbolic location: the Oosterkerk in Amsterdam. This iconic church is located directly opposite the spot on the Wittenburgergracht where Ivo’s legendary concert boat (Janssenbeton) used to dock. A beautiful, familiar setting in which this unmistakable classic from Dutch music history is brought to life once again.
