Simeon ten Holt: Canto Ostinato (Schlette – Van de Scheur)

On March 30, pianists Luuk Schlette and Philo van de Scheur will perform the Canto Ostinato on two concert grand pianos in the atmospheric setting of the Kapel op ‘t Rijsselt. This composition by Simeon ten Holt (photo) is one of the most famous works in Dutch music history. This minimalist masterpiece, composed in the 1970s, consists of short, repeating motifs that can be freely interpreted and repeated by the performers. This makes each performance unique. The slowly shifting patterns and subtle changes in dynamics and timbre make this concert a meditative experience.
