Simeon ten Holt: Capriccio & Canto Ostinato (Van Prooijen, PA’dam)
Violinist Janneke van Prooijen plays Ten Holt’s last work, the raging Capriccio for solo violin from 1999, in which Ten Holt harks back to Bach, especially the cello suites.
Choir PA’dam brings the choral premiere of Canto Ostinato by no less than 16 singers. All possibilities of the voice are used to the maximum for this minimal music. The special sound world is enriched with the warm sound of marimbas, harp and double bass.
Musical lines are enhanced by expressive movements of the singers, from varying positions in space. Video projections enlarge or reduce, slow down or speed up their movements. Let your eyes dance on these two versions of reality; an impressive translation of the elusive character of Canto Ostinato.
