Simeon ten Holt & Celia Swart
Enjoy a summer concert focusing on the iconic work Canto Ostinato by Dutch composer Simeon ten Holt. This masterpiece is performed on the Leeuwenbergh organ in the Academy House.
In addition to Canto Ostinato, Shifting Presence, a new and inspiring work by composer Celia Swart, is also on the program. Swart describes her piece as a musical journey of body and soul:
“My new piece Shifting Presence for pan flute and organ takes the listener on a ‘life journey’ of the body and soul. I found it inspiring to connect both instruments to this. The pan flute expresses the body and the organ the soul. The organ is full of different sounds and sound layers, which can grow and vibrate in space. The pan flute is controlled directly by the breath, and is very versatile in terms of expressive possibilities. These two, body and soul, are connected by a growing melody. Together they make a life journey and discover what happens to the soul when the body ends. I find this an exciting quest, especially in a spiritual space such as the Grote Kerk Academiehuis in Zwolle.”
