Simeon ten Holt: Horizon
For the fifteenth year in a row, the Natalon Quartet (formerly Rondane Quartet) will play two works by the Bergen composer Simeon ten Holt in De Duif. Pianist Robert Lambermont maintained a close relationship with the composer, who wrote about this in his memoirs: “Robert understood best that the performance of the full-length pieces (after Canto Ostinato) cannot simply be arranged with a few rehearsals or by skilled pianists, but presupposes a period of maturation that amounts to a difficult process of conquest.”
The pianists of the Natalon Quartet, praised for their renditions of Ten Holt’s five full-length compositions for four keyboard instruments, have been making music together for more than eighteen years. This translates into unparalleled and crystal clear interplay. Four instruments, one sound.
Natalon Quartet performs the composition Horizon in a never-before-seen setting: on four grand pianos and a celesta. The sound of the celesta fits seamlessly with the mysterious character of Horizon.
Just like Canto Ostinato, Horizon has an almost hypnotic and dancing character. It starts with a minimalist tranquility and gradually develops into an exciting climax that ends in a tranquil finale.
On April 2, the Natalon Quartet will perform Canto Ostinato by Simeon ten Holt. Tickets for this are available here: https://canto-duif.eventbrite.nl
Passepartouts for both concerts are available here.
