Simeon ten Holt: Horizon
The Natalon Quartet will perform two works by Bergen-based composer Simeon ten Holt at De Duif. Pianist Robert Lambermont maintained a close relationship with the composer, who wrote about this in his memoirs: “Robert understood better than anyone that performing the evening-length pieces (after Canto Ostinato) cannot be arranged with just a few rehearsals or by skillful pianists, but requires a period of maturation amounting to a laborious process of conquest.”
Discover Simeon ten Holt’s Horizon, a masterpiece performed in a unique arrangement of four grand pianos and two celestas. Following the iconic Canto Ostinato, Ten Holt composed Horizon, an enchanting work that weaves hypnotic repetitions with moving melodies. The piece builds toward a rousing climax before concluding in a quiet, understated manner. The celestas add a silvery timbre to the orchestral sound of the four pianos, expanding the artistic scope for the performers.
