Simeon ten Holt: Palimpsest (Matangi)

After the resounding success of the Canto Ostinato, Matangi ventures into another masterpiece by Simeon ten Holt in the Ten Holt 100-year. The string septet Palimpsest (from 1993) knows how to touch, move and bewilder the soul. Immerse yourself in the magical world of Ten Holt.

The title Palimpsest comes from the Greek and goes back in history to a scroll of parchment, which has been rewritten after scraping off or making the original writing invisible. Often the original text remained somewhat legible. This last property is always perceptible to the listener in the composition. Despite differences in key or character, the theme can still be traced back to the opening theme.

The concert is a part of the Festival Cantonaal which takes place from 18-20 May.

When you think of Indonesia, the spicy scents of the oriental kitchen probably come to mind. But perhaps also wajang puppets, chirping monkeys swinging through the jungle, or a volcano that could erupt at any moment. Or the traditional dances in beautiful clothing.
