Simeon ten Holt: Soloduiveldans II & III (h. Minnaar)
You certainly know Canto Ostinato, but Simeon ten Holt, born 100 years ago, wrote more, much more. Hannes Minnaar (photo) brings his ode in the form of two Solo Devil Dances, in which, according to the composer, there is nothing devilish, rather something demonic. ‘Every person is led by an angel and a demon and there is a remarkable, precious relationship between the two.’ Actually also a kind of minimal music: Erik Satie’s 3 Gymnopédies from 1888. Reinbert de Leeuw made his world-famous recording at the time in De Waalse Church, tonight you will hear live what they sound like here.
The press and public describe Hannes Minnaar as a pianist who knows how to convey the essence of music. They praise his spontaneity, natural play and ease, which does not get bogged down in superficiality. Minnaar won recognition at the Concours de Genève (2008, 2nd prize) and the Queen Elisabeth Competition (2010, 3rd prize). In 2016 he was awarded the Dutch Music Prize.
