Simon ten Holt: Canto Ostinato (PA’dam)
What feels closer than the sound and expression of the human voice? The famous Canto Ostinato by Simeon Ten Holt! PA’dam conducted by Maria van Nieukerken sings the Canto in an arrangement for choir and instrumental ensemble.
The possibilities of the voice are used to the maximum in this ‘minimal music’. The minimal changes in the patterns of this music create a sense of endlessness, which is enhanced by the long lines and continuous sounds of the singers. The music shifts so slowly that the changes are sometimes barely perceptible. These minimal musical shifts take shape in the choreography of the singers; sometimes the listener hears the music from far away, then from very close….
