Strahovnik & Padding in Dutch Connections with ASKO
With video, media, theatre, movement, soundtracks and of course live music, this program stimulates many senses. You will hear music by abstract thinker Peter Adriaansz and master of irony Martijn Padding alongside work by young talents from their composition class at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. Asko|Schönberg thus celebrates its close relationship with this leading training institute.
The Slovenian Petra Strahovnik searches for sounds, structures and shapes that transcend the separation of body and mind and ‘make the mind tremble’. Alexandre Kordzaia, also active in electronic dance and rap, encourages the cello soloist with battle cries, beats and vocalises. Lise Morrison mixes South African poetry by a resident of The Hague from Cape Town with video and sound. Star composer Michel van der Aa translates gradations of red – from carmine to vermilion – into live music and soundtrack. Padding ironizes the German brass band and makes the tuba dance tango.
