Victoria Poleva / Marijn van Prooije

Pianist Ralph van Raat, percussionist Konstantyn Napolov and violinist Merel Vercammen, go on a musical journey through Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. A unique experience with an extensive percussion set and beautiful melodies.

The theme of collecting and the importance of art play a leading role in this program. The name of the program comes from Modest Mussorgsky’s famous and history-rich classical masterpiece Pictures at an Exhibition, the arrangement was specially made for this program and is central. The piano and percussion open doors to the magical world of the exhibition and take listeners on a musical promenade walk in the Academy of Fine Arts, where we can experience the old castle, the market of Limoges and the ballet of unhatched chicks.

In addition to Mussorgsky, the program includes various commissioned works, such as the work The Collectors by the leading German composer Moritz Eggert. He shows and hears the vision of collections in our times – the composer himself is also addicted to collecting in real life. It is a special sound journey where the pianist not only plays the grand piano, but also the Toy piano, Swiss cowbell, Kazoo and many more in combination with no fewer than 65 percussion instruments – talk about collections…

When you think of Indonesia, the spicy scents of the oriental kitchen probably come to mind. But perhaps also wajang puppets, chirping monkeys swinging through the jungle, or a volcano that could erupt at any moment. Or the traditional dances in beautiful clothing.
