Victoria Vita Poleva: Bucha. Lacrimosa
This is a commemorative concert dedicated to the third anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This event is a symbolic dedication to the lives lost during the war, uniting Ukrainian and international music, embodying solidarity and memory.
The concert will begin with ‘Bucha. Lacrimosa’ by contemporary Ukrainian composer Victoria Vita Polevá. It is a deep piece that broadcasts a solemn aura of contemplation, and will be immediately followed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s iconic Requiem. Renowned for its depth and sensitivity, this masterpiece creates a powerful dialogue between historical and contemporary reflections on loss, resilience and hope. The visual-ideal axis of the concert will be the painting “Madonna of Irpen” by the Ukrainian artist Vladyslav Zadvorsky, which depicts a mother with a baby against the background of a destroyed bridge. This bridge, which connected Bucha with Irpene, became a tragic symbol of resistance to the invasion. The painting reflects the pain and heroism of ordinary people trying to protect their loved ones and reminds us of the terrible events in Bucha.
This concert, which will be performed by Lithuanian and Ukrainian musicians, will build a symbolic bridge between Ukraine and the world audience, using music as a universal language, in order to honor and promote a deeper understanding and empathy for Ukraine’s situation on the world stage.
The project is financed by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania.
