Victoria Vita Polevá and Anna Korsun
At just 24 years old, Strauss was at the top of his game in a counterintuitive portrait of the notorious lover Don Juan — not the libertine, but a world-weary hero searching for the perfect woman. The music is intense, though not without passages of sensuous love music. The score demands extraordinary virtuosity from the orchestra, especially the horns with their brilliant signature horn calls. Led by the incomparable conductor, Kirill Karabits, this program also features works by fellow Ukrainian artists, including a world premiere by the award-winning Victoria Vita Polevá and a contemporary piece by Anna Korsun that had its world premiere in 2023.
