Willem Jeths by Lahti Symphony Orchestra
The eagerly-awaited opera Ritratto by Dutch composer Willem Jeths was one of the first victims of cancellation owing to Covid, but a recording online attracted tens of thousands of viewers and ecstatic reviews. The story of the heiress Luisa Casati’s obsession with portraits of herself is full of references to the greatest hits of Italian opera. The soloist at this concert is Inmo Yang, the winner of the International Jean Sibelius Competition 2022. We shall also hear Pictures at an Exhibition, Modest Mussorgsky’s most popular work, in the orchestration by Maurice Ravel.
