In collaboration with the Conservatory of Amsterdam and docent Ralph van Raat, the Leiden Salon presents four concerts featuring Dutch (piano) music from the 20th century. Well-known and lesser-known composers will be featured. A nice touch is that three of these concerts will be given by (piano) students from abroad, a wonderful meeting of cultures.

The main pieces of this concert will be the substantial violin sonata by Matthijs Vermeulen and the piano composition “Anathema” by Peter Schat.

General Willem Pijper was born in Zeist on September 8, 1894. He died on March 18, 1947 in Leidschendam. Education From 1912 to 1916 he studied theory, composition and piano at the Utrecht College of Music with Johan Wagenaar and Helena van Lunteren-Hansen.

Peter Schat is one of the most colourful and widely-known Dutch composers of the 20th century. He was born on June 5, 1935, in Utrecht, the son of a Protestant baker, and knew from an early age that he wanted to be a composer. Peter Schat passed away on February 3, 2003 in Amsterdam.
