Willem Pijper: Six Adagio’s
Last season, the performance of Eine Alpensinfonie by honorary conductor Edo de Waart was canceled, but now he is coming to Utrecht to conduct the magnificent work for large orchestra. Richard Strauss depicts an eleven-hour mountain ascent, from sunrise to sunset, including wanderings, the euphoria of reaching the summit, the magnificent view and the inevitable storm on the descent. Waterfalls, glaciers, singing forests, everything fills the room! In addition, songs by Franz Schubert in an orchestration by Max Reger and freemason music by ‘our’ Willem Pijper.
