William Knight: Bacchanalia
The VU Chamber Choir will perform a special concert under the name Klankbodem. This program focuses on the power of old and new choral music. Contemporary compositions and classical masterpieces together form a unique musical experience for the listener.
With works by several leading composers of our time, including Julia Wolfe, William Knight and Kate Moore, as well as classical works by Francis Poulenc and Benjamin Britten.
A special feature of this program is the performance of pieces that were recently written especially for the VU Chamber Choir by talented students from the Conservatory of Amsterdam. These young composers are inspired by the music of previous generations, just as a sounding board amplifies the vibrations of a musical instrument. This creates an interesting interaction between past and present with new timbres. For the choir, it is an honor and a responsibility to be the first to perform these works and present them to the public.
The VU Chamber Choir is happy to take the listener along in this fascinating fusion of tradition and innovation, in which works by celebrated composers from the past and contemporary compositions resonate together.
