Wilma Pistorius: Secret Compartment, Sakura, A.D.A
On 21 June, Hortus botanicus Leiden celebrates Midsummer Night – the longest day of the year. During Midsummer Night, the garden is open until late (from 19:30 to 00:00) and you can enjoy a rich program full of music, theater and art. Wander through the garden at your own pace, discover surprising performances between the trees and greenhouses, visit the exhibitions, and experience the magic of midsummer in the green.
Chamber works by Wilma Pistorius are on the program, including ‘Secret Compartment’, ‘Sakura’, ‘A.D.A.’, as well as 4’33” by John Cage and ‘Untitled’ by Anne Veinberg (toy piano’s) and composer Wilma Pistorius (cello).
‘Secret Compartment’ is an intimate and playful performance with newly composed music for toy piano’s and cello. It has interactive elements, and is inspired by the aesthetics of Zen art, and the astronomical objects catalogued by Charles Messier.
