Yannis Kyriakides & Aspasia Nasopoulou

The young Cypriot singer Kristia Michael joins us in this NAPzak. She is a soulful performer who is equally well-versed in medieval music, contemporary music, and folk music. In this programme, all these worlds come together. Yannis Kyriakides wrote a piece for Kristia with strong influences from Byzantine music.
Silvia Borzelli’s piece was inspired by a song sung by a woman from Cameroon and a blues song by an African-American woman. Like Beat Furrer, she used ‘only’ the double bass as the accompaniment. The soprano’s high-flying song dances above the earthy growl of Dario Calderone’s double bass. Ivan Fedele’s Arcipelago is a virtuoso journey through all the registers of the ensemble.
