Yannis Kyriakides in Words and Music Festival

After the successful 1st edition, Asko|Schönberg is once again serving the Words & Music festival. Various art disciplines come together in an unexpected way in an adventurous program that plays with the relationships between music and language.

Join a program full of cut-ups & f*ck ups on 3 September, because this edition is inspired by the disruptive work of the literary enfant terrible of the sixties William S. Burroughs and composer Luciano Berio. Both applied the cut-up technique in their own way: they used fragments of existing and new material to create new work.

So expect an afternoon and evening full of cut, cut and brand new concerts, music theatre, performances, film, installations and do-it-yourself cut-ups, in (almost) all corners of the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ.

Program full of experiment, (non) sense and pure beauty.

Lunch Music by Yannis Kyriakides: the ultimate Words & Music concert by Slagwerk Den Haag and Silbersee.

Jan-Peter de Graaff: Hagar, an opera in 4 scenes

On Thursday, May 15th, the Nederlandse Reisopera presented its upcoming season with a brand new opera.  A bold and creative partnership between composer Jan-Peter de Graaff and librettist Eleanor Barlow, Hagar is a daring, modern and fiercely human reimagining of the ancient tale that explores resilience, scandal, and consequence.

When you think of Indonesia, the spicy scents of the oriental kitchen probably come to mind. But perhaps also wajang puppets, chirping monkeys swinging through the jungle, or a volcano that could erupt at any moment. Or the traditional dances in beautiful clothing.
