General Zaid Jabri was born in Damascus. His mother is a renowned modernist artist and his father a retired director of television and theatre. His background and early interest in music alerted him to the dense and long histories of shared and reworked harmonic and instrumental strategies across such divides as East and West.

The program “Stars of Heaven” focuses on two Dutch premieres: “Riflesso sull’aria” by Richard Rijnvos and “Le feu rouge foncé” by Piet-Jan van Rossum. Both composers share the same artistic starting point: their new work is inspired by “Trois Poèmes de Mallarmé,” a song cycle for soprano and ensemble by the much-admired Maurice Ravel.
