DCV 382 – Nestor Taylor: Softly awakes my heart

Nestor Taylor was born to a very prominent Greek family, in Melbourne, Australia. He studied piano, harmony and counterpoint at the Athens Conservatory with George Diamantis and composer, Menelaos Pallantios.

The series of symphony concerts concludes with a program in which two great composers of the 19th century expand their respective horizons: Hector Berlioz’ Harold in Italy moves between symphony and solo concerto for the viola. The piece was commissioned by the famous Italian violinist Niccolò Paganini from Berlioz in 1834.

Nestor Taylor’s oratorio-like opera tells the true story of a selfless mother who becomes a tragic heroine in the midst of a brutal war for the love of her children. During the 1940s, a civil war raged in Greece between communist partisans and right-wing government troops.

Celia Swart (1994, NL) is a new music composer, saxophone player and visual artist. Growing up playing saxophone and piano, she found her love for composing.

Education Michael has a degree in English Literature from the State University of New York. Despite having no formal music education, he has an active international career in several aspects of the music business.
