On International Women’s Day, March 8, 2026, at 3:30 PM, the women’s choir Capricciosa will perform at the Johanneskerk in Amersfoort. The concert will feature the premiere of two choral works by composer Rieteke Hölscher, titled “Wintersongs,” composed during the winter seasons of 2020 and 2021. These pieces reflect themes of inspiration and strength, resonating with the day’s celebration of women’s achievements.
The program will also include compositions by Hildegard von Bingen, Barbara Strozzi, Clara Schumann, and contemporary composers Sarah Quartel and Aspasia Nasopoulou. This selection highlights the contributions of female composers across different eras, emphasizing the enduring presence of women in the field of music.
Under the direction of Gonny van der Maten, who will also accompany on piano and organ, Capricciosa aims to present a diverse and engaging repertoire. Organist and pianist Wouter van Belle will join the performance, adding depth to the musical arrangements. Additionally, city poet Tanja ter Brake (2023–2025) will contribute to the program, offering poetic reflections that align with the concert’s themes of self-awareness, freedom, and inspiration.
This event provides an opportunity to experience a blend of historical and contemporary works by female composers, performed in the historic setting of the Johanneskerk. It serves as a platform to appreciate the artistic expressions of women in music and literature, fostering a deeper understanding of their contributions to the arts.
