Ausschweifungen for chamber orchestra and choir is a transgressive, queer fairy tale. It depicts someone who, in the depths of night, is stumbling across the street, their peripheral vision blurred and untethered from reality. This person has been hedonistically enjoying the nightlife and is half awake, half asleep.
The piece, with its vacillating microtonal inflections, paints a cityscape from this point of view, until dawn breaks and a swarm of horrific, yet benevolent birds comes down to wake the person up, emboldening them for yet another day of debauchery. The piece will be played by the Nederlands Kamerorkest and the Toonkunstkoor Amsterdam.
