Willem Pijper: Sonata for piano

Gaudeamus House 100 years!

September 16, 2024 marks the 100th anniversary of the laying of the first stone of Huize Gaudeamus by Frithjof Richard Röntgen! We will of course all celebrate this extensively in the week of September 15 to 22. During that entire week the “Sounds” that sounded in the house will come to us again. A festive week with many concerts, a documentary and fun.

The entire anniversary program is explained and a ‘visual story’ about 100 years of history of Huize Gaudeamus is revealed by the well-known cartoonist and graphic designer Joost Swarte*.

There will also be a concert provided by the Otilka Quartet assisted by Jorian van Nee (piano) and Carmen Sanchez Labrador (piano). They play, among other things, the trio ‘Gaudeamus’ composed by Julius Röntgen on the occasion of the construction of Huize Gaudeamus.

Programme:

Julius Röntgen (1855-1932) – Trio no. 8 ‘Gaudeamus’ for piano, violin and cello (1924)

Willem Pijper (1894 – 1947) – Sonatina for piano solo no. 3 (1925)

Julius Röntgen – Sonata in C-sharp minor for piano solo (1928)

Willem Pijper – Sonata for piano solo (1930)

Julius Röntgen – Quintet for piano, 2 violins, viola and cello in A minor (1927), opus 100

This afternoon recordings will be made by the Concertzender.
