Victoria Vita Poleva / Marijn Van Prooijen

Piano virtuoso Ralph van Raat, percussionist Konstantyn Napolov and violinist Merel Vercammen take you on a musical journey focusing on Mussorgsky’s famous ‘Paintings from an Exhibition’. A unique experience with an extensive percussion set-up with different sounds, small, large and exotic instruments (from vibraphone to Thai gongs) come together with beautiful melodies on piano and violin.

The theme of collecting and the importance of art plays a leading role in this program. The name of the program comes from Modest Mussorgsky’s famous and history-rich classical masterpiece “Paintings from an Exhibition”: the arrangement was made especially for this program by composer Marijn van Prooijen. The enchanting and stirring combination of piano and percussion opens doors to the magical world of the exhibition and takes listeners to the musical promenade walk at the Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg, where we visit the old castle, the Limoges market and the ballet of unhatched chicks.

In addition to Mussorgsky, several commissioned works are on the program, such as the work ‘Mono no Aware’ by  on of the leading Ukrainian composers Victoria Vita Poleva whose piece will open the program.
