Maxim Shalygin: Angel
The Pi Quartet presents a concert featuring works exclusively by contemporary composers, including Maxim Shalygin’s “Angel.” Based in The Hague, the quartet is a half-American, half-Dutch, and Ukrainian string quartet dedicated to neoclassical, contemporary, and experimental music.
The Pi Quartet consists of Leah Plave (cello), Oksana Mukosii (viola), Leslee Smucker (violin), and Hoei Lien The (violin), and was born out of a shared passion for multidisciplinary performance and curiosity for music outside the traditional string quartet repertoire.
The name Pi, a reference to the mathematical symbol π, represents unity, harmony, and infinite possibilities—as does the quartet’s sensitivity to space and context in their performances.
