Jubilee Shirt (2021) for trumpet, percussion, harp, viola and orchestra by Swedish composer Lisa Streich and Nuits (2022) for chamber ensemble by French composer Othman Louati are the winning works of the 69th International Rostrum of Composers (IRC) in The Hague.
This edition of the Rostrum had representatives from 22 national radio stations from four continents, all presenting 41 works. For the first time ever, the majority of composers presented were women or non-binary. After the listening sessions, the assembly of delegates selected the most distinctive works in two categories: “general” and “young composers under 30”.
In the “Young composers under 30” category, first place went to Slovenian composer Matic Romih for his composition for string orchestra The Card Players (Kvartopirci)(2018). Dutch composer Rick van Veldhuizen finished in third place with his work ‘mais le corps taché d’ombres’.
In the ‘Featured Works’ category, Wilbert Bulsink received a mention for his composition Smashing Mirrors.
The IRC took place in the Netherlands for the second time in its history at the invitation of NPO Klassiek and the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague.
