Day of the Composer; June 18th

Saturday 18 June 2022 will be the first Day of the Composer. A celebration of new music with more than 100 concerts in one day. Music by more than 100 composers active in the Netherlands will be heard throughout the country: not only in concert halls and theatres, but also from bell towers, on the street and in living rooms. The entire day, NPO Radio 4 will be dedicated to the Dutch composer. NTR and VPRO will broadcast live from TivoliVredenburg, and New Music NOW will stream the entire day. Various cities are participating: Utrecht, The Hague, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Den Bosch, Tilburg, Amersfoort, Arnhem, Ede, Zwolle/Enschede. The day will start in Utrecht with the unveiling and playing of the Greatest Graphic Score. View the program per city at newmusicnow.

During the Composer's Day, composers, musicians, music lovers and ensembles across the country give live performances - from intimate living room concerts to large-scale music events. The Day of the Composer celebrates the vitality and colourfulness of new music in all its facets. Dozens of venues and festivals from all over the country participate. Together with the composers they form a broad network under the flag of New Music NOW. Each organisation presents a festive music programme in its own city or region, of course in the personal presence of the composer.

The Day opens with a grand public happening: the festive unveiling of the specially composed Greatest Graphic Score of all time. Very young composers and old hands at the trade have contributed to this 400-metre long ribbon of music. The score will be festively unveiled and played together with a colourful procession of children, musicians and passers-by, led by Martin Fondse, the Composer of the Netherlands.
