Alla Zagaykevych / Maxim Shalygin

Limbo is an intensely personal project commissioned by Viktoriia Vitrenko. Developed amid the social and political turmoil of 2021–2022, the project explores the psychological and physical states of individuals suspended in liminal spaces — caught between worlds, unable to move forward, and enveloped in uncertainty about the future.

At the heart of Limbo are four newly commissioned vocal cycles by Agata Zubel, Alla Zagaykevych, Ying Wang, and Sven-Ingo Koch, complemented by an existing work by Maxim Shalygin. Together, these pieces create a profound space for reflection, amplified by a unique and intimate performance format: a female singer accompanying herself on the piano.
