Benet Casablancas: Seven Haikus

Internationally renowned Spanish clarinettist Joan Enric Lluna and pianist Josep Colom dedicated their joint album Spiritual Wings (Sony Classical, 2024) to one of Johannes Brahms’ most intimate works: his Sonatas for clarinet, Op. 120, which the composer wrote only three years before his death, with clarinettist Richard Mühlfeld in mind. On this occasion, the duo will perform the second sonata, a mature work often described as “a springtime of pure joy”, wherein the composer nostalgically recalls the sweetness of his youth.

In the first part of the concert, the duet will present a selection of works by one of the most acclaimed contemporary Catalan composers, Benet Casablancas, whose complete works for clarinet were recorded by the duet in 2022 together with the other members of Moonwinds. They will also perform works that they themselves have composed, including a piece that Luna wrote as a tribute to the maestro Joaquín Rodrigo.
