In September 7th, Brazil celebrates its Independence. In 2025, as part of the festivities, Gijsbert Kok will perform, on Friday 05th September at 12:00, in the carillon of the Grote Kerk in Den Haag, a program of Brazilian Music, including the premiere of the revised version of my work “MEMORIAL pro Franco Coração Presente da Marielle (MEMORIAL for the Truthful Heart of Marielle, Present)”, composed for the 200th anniversary of Brazil’s Independence, in 2022. This concert is promoted by the Brazilian Embassy in Den Haag.

About the work:

MEMORIAL pro Franco Coração Presente da Marielle (MEMORIAL for the Truthful Heart of Marielle, Present) is a work written for the celebratory concert marking Brazil’s 200th anniversary of independence. It was performed on the carillon of the Grote Kerk in The Hague, the Netherlands, on September 7, 2022, by Gijsbert Kok. The piece is a homage to the Brazilian politician Marielle Franco, who was the victim of a politically motivated murder in 2018, alongside Anderson Gomes, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is based on the song “Não me Procures”, composed by me, with text by Hilda Hilst.
