Film about Hans Henkemans
Special screening of the documentary ‘Weggewist’ about famous in the 1950s Dutch pianist, composer and psychiatrist Hans Henkemans (1913-1995) who made a name at home and abroad with his brilliant Mozart and Debussy interpretations. He is also one of the most frequently performed Dutch composers in that period.
Twenty-five years after his death, director Harro Henkemans investigates the special life story of his great-uncle. He will talk to Ed Spanjaard, Jac van Steen and Melchior Huurdeman, whom Hans Henkemans considers his ‘musical sons’. They look back on their friendship with Hans Henkemans and on his striking role in the ‘sonic’ discussion. They think the time is right to bring the ‘erased music’ of Hans Henkemans to the attention of a new generation of Dutch musicians, including pianists Lucas and Arthur Jussen and Nikola Meeuwsen and violinist Liza Ferschtman.
Weggewest was selected for the Netherlands Film Festival last year, competed for a Golden Calf and can now be seen for the first time in MIMIK in Deventer.
After the break, the young Amsterdam pianist Mattias Spee will play works by Hans Henkemans, Debussy and his own work.
