Guus Janssen: Composer’s Portrait (interview)

Pianist, organist and composer Guus Janssen is a welcome guest in the Orgelpark. His series of new compositions is reason to dedicate a composer’s portrait to him. Janssen published a collection of new organ music from which a number of works will be played tonight. And to give the evening even more sparkle, pianist Gerard Bouwhuis will play the premiere of a series of variations for piano.

Guus Janssen talks about his relationship with the organ: how does he see the instrument, and how does that determine his organ music? Organist Geerten van de Wetering also participates in the interview, who will perform in the concert tonight. Together with Janssen he prepared the program meticulously. The discussion leader is Hans Fidom; the conversation lasts over an hour.

Benet Casablancas: Three Epigrams for orchestra

This work belongs to a chapter in the composer’s oeuvre characterized by formal concision, concentrated discourse, and expressive contrast—all qualities inherent to the epigrammatic poetic genre—without neglecting other associated aspects such as direct effectiveness in the exposition of the argument, wit, and even certain moral connotations.
