Guus Janssen: Stripes
A programme from Dutch soil with a central role for the string quartet. In his swinging string quartet Filtered Hits, composer Maarten Altena juxtaposes melodic lines against short, staccato notes that gradually develop into patterns. Pianist-composer Guus Janssen doesn’t want his string quartet to sound like a string quartet. With a magical mix of overtones, he incidentally invents a new ‘instrument’.
Percussionist Ruud Roelofsen has a huge passion for scratching, banging and patting. His musical world is an ode to sound and rhythm. Saxophonist Yedo Gibson wrote a piece for the classic combination of violin and piano. In Odsjaj, Jasna Veličković translates her fascination with electronic sounds into a purely instrumental piano solo
