John Franek: Wavelengths

Selections of the work Wavelengths will be performed at Paiknam Music Hall of Hanyang University as part of the 2024 International Computer Music Conference.

WAVELENGTHS gathers visual light phenomena as subject material for musical representation and imitation, thereby producing aural wavelengths which are descriptive of their visual counterparts. Additionally, each instrument’s sounds are augmented through live electronics in order to more fully capture the refractory nature of their optical wavelength counterparts.

The cycle was first performed and recorded in Amsterdam and is available on the Donemus Composer’s Voice Label.  The piece utilizes the (unfairly) little known Contrabass Pan flute and Paetzold Great Bass Recorder.

The Composer’s trip is is supported by the Program na Podporu Zahraničních Mobilit Doktorandů from the Akademie múzických umění v Praze.
