Karel Goeyvaerts: You’ll never be alone anymore

You’ll never be alone anymore is the title of a composition by Karel Goeyvaerts, one of the most fascinating composers Belgium has ever produced. One hundred years after his birth, Lunalia, I SOLISTI and other partners are teaming up to pay a fitting tribute, with I SOLISTI as the ensemble in residence.

Besides the focus on Goeyvaerts and the Millennial History (musical journalism) project, the festival will concentrate on a cappella ensembles. The German ensemble Sjaella and the vocal quartet Niniwe will play leading roles as musically minded ensembles. Communal singing is the best remedy for solitude and for the loneliness that plagues our society.

The festival motto, You’ll never be alone anymore, is also reflected in the fact that the artists in residence from 2018 (Sigrid Hausen), 2019 (Reinoud Van Mechelen) and 2021 (Floris De Rycker) have been invited back for our 2023 edition. The festival family and the city of Mechelen are celebrating musical connectedness together. Come and celebrate with us!

OPENING CONCERT YOU’LL NEVER BE ALONE ANYMORE.

The musicians of I SOLISTI and Niniwe join forces for the Lunalia 2023 opening concert. Together, they encircle the public with music ranging from Karel Goeyvaerts’ Zang van Aquarius to Charlie Chaplin’s Smile. The result is a contemporary musical moon ritual based on the motto of Lunalia 2023: You’ll never be alone anymore.
