Lowell Dykstra: Pyramus and Thisbe
Imagine yourself in one of the intimate European music salons from the early Romantic period, and be enchanted by the richness of sound and virtuosity of all those beautiful different guitars: La Guitaromanie.
Dutch Music Prize winner Izhar Elias takes us to the intimate atmosphere of a European music salon from the early Romantic period. On his special 19th century guitars he revives the rich sounds and virtuosity of his instruments.
The program includes works by Italian composers such as Francesco Molino, Filippo Gragnani and Ferdinando Carulli. They lived in Paris, where there was a real guitar craze in the salons. In addition to these special forgotten guitar virtuosos, there will be work by Wenzeslaus Matiegka, a guitarist who created a sensation in the Viennese salons. Welcome to the romantic guitar salon!
