Maxim Shalygin / Alla Zagaykevych

The double vinyl album LIMBO on Kyiv Dispatch – a new Ukrainian label for contemporary and experimental music. A project by Viktoriia Vitrenko in collaboration with Sasha Andrusyk from Ear (Ukraine), dedicated to Maria Kalesnikava. The album includes part of the vocal cycle ‘The songs of holy fools’ composed by Maxim Shalygin in 2009-2010 as well as a premiere piece ‘Signs of Presence’ by Alla Zagaykevych. 

The album gets its release on February 17th as a limited edition of 500 copies, on March 17th the album will appear on all major streaming platforms. 

Lecture-performance as part of the Internatonal Master Classes in contemporary music at the Lviv National Philharmonic, celebrating the release of the double vinyl LIMBO on Kyiv Dispatch, a new label dedicated to contemporary and experimental music in Ukraine. Music by Agata Zubel, Alla Zagaykevych, Ying Wang, Sven-Ingo Koch and Maxim Shalygin. Video art and performance – Studio Radar and Viktoriia Vitrenko. Supported by the Goethe Institute Ukraine.

His compositions include chamber, vocal, symphonic, electro-acoustic music, as well as music for theater, ballet and film. Shalygin has participated in many competitions internationally. He received a honorable mention at the Gaudeamus competition 2012 for his work “Letters to Anna” symphony for violin solo. The same year his music was selected for Gesamt project of Lars von Trier. Shalygin was a composer-in-residence in IZOLYATSIA – Platform for Cultural Initiatives (Donetsk, Ukraine) and Storioni Festival (Brabant, Netherlands). Shalygin’s works have been performed in festivals such as: Gaudeamus Muziekweek (Netherlands), Sound Ways (Russia), Musical Youth Tribune (Ukraine), GOGOLFEST (Ukraine), Spring Festival (Netherlands), International Forum of Young Music (Ukraine), Music Premieres of the Season (Ukraine), UNEVEN – mini-festival by Lonneke van Leth (Netherlands).
