Maxim Shalygin: CD presentation ‘To all Alive’

Blukanya Records released TO ALL ALIVE, a double CD album with piano works by Dutch-Ukrainian composer Maxim Shalygin, performed by acclaimed Ukrainian pianist Antonii Baryshevskyi. This groundbreaking album spans 20 years of creative collaboration between composer and pianist.

The album includes Shalygin’s first major composition, “9 Preludes” (2005), written when he was 18, alongside the more recent “Fetus Études” (2019-2024), a powerful cycle of works composed during the challenging period following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The recording not only represents a musical journey but also testifies to resistance and artistic perseverance in difficult times.

Baryshevskyi, first prize winner of prestigious compositions including the Artur Rubinstein International Piano Master competition, demonstrates his exceptional technical ability and deep understanding of contemporary music on the album. His long-standing collaboration with Shalygin, which goes back to their student days at the Kyiv Conservatory, lends a special authenticity to the interpretations.

The album was recorded at the HaagsPianoHuis and Steppenwolf studio in 2024, with support from the Société Gavigniès, the Letterenfonds, Classical NOW! and the Goethe Institute.
