Darvishi: Daughters of Sol & Shalygin: Drop After Drop
The Arthema String Quartet, founded in 2017, is rapidly advancing in the ranks of Dutch string quartets. The violinists and cellist from Norway, Portugal, Spain and the Netherlands are full of ambition and will present a program during November Music with only recent and brand new work. They have already given performances in the Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, Concert Hall Tilburg and Concertgebouw Amsterdam. In 2018 they won the audience award during the Willem Twee chamber music competition in Den Bosch.
During the Music Route, Arthema plays music by Aftab Darvishi, Egidija Medeksaite, Nikolaï Clavier and Anthony Fiumara. The world premiere of the young Spanish composer Ximo Tarín Micó will be special. Micó manages to evoke darkness in a memorable way for his very first string quartet Tenebrae factae sunt. As a spiritual dessert, Arthema plays the beautiful Drop After Drop by Maxim Shalygin, composed for the Festival for Compassions in response to the war in the Ukraine. A number of the quartets will be combined with specially produced film works during the performance.
