“SACRA et PROFANA. Ukrainian voices”

The special program of the vocal ensemble for contemporary music ALTER RATIO is dedicated to the unique multiculture of Ukraine. Throughout its existence, Ukraine has been at the crossroads of civilizations, cultures and religions:

Trypillya, Kyiv Rus, Attic culture

Byzantium, Mongol-Tatar invasion

Russian Empire, Poland-Lithuania

First World War, Second World War

For many centuries, the rationalism of the West and the mysticism of the East met in Ukraine, mixing the urban culture of Western Europe and the pagan beliefs and traditions of Ukraine.

The works selected for this program combine different sonic practices and traditions of the West and East, which have become the basis of contemporary Ukrainian music. It includes works by Ukrainian contemporary composers of different generations who are at the forefront of the music movement in Ukraine, creating works that are unique in their musical language and cultural context. In addition, there are pieces by well-known composers from European music culture as well as compositions by a new, young generation that is also experimenting with electronic processes.

On the program works by Maxim Shalygin, Svyatoslav Lunyov, Arvo Part, Maxim Kolomiiets, Victoria Poleva, Tatiana Yashvili, Thomas Tallis.
