Music that calls for peace

While hundreds of candles dispel the darkness of the approaching evening in the Walburgis Church, passionate musicians perform a concert for peace. They each feel a strong connection with the essence of the works they play. The call for peace in ‘Drop after Drop’ by the Ukrainian composer Maxim Shalygin has now been heard all over the world and will be performed tonight by more than 20 string players of the Chamber Orchestra of the North. Ensemble CelloWercken, together with Jan Linssen, presents the song ‘Abwoen’, which is about the light that wants to be born again and again. The hope for a new beginning is given sound when two cellist friends – from Belarus and Ukraine – play ‘Reaching out to Freedom’ by Kris Oelbrandt together.

The decor of the Walburgis Church adds a special dimension. The program promises to be an intense and meaningful journey that invites listeners to reflect on the meaning of war and peace. This initiative by the Chamber Orchestra of the North, Dat Bolwerck and CelloWercken offers everyone who wants to attend a special concert to listen to and a valuable moment of joint reflection.
