Nikos Kokolakis: Origin

The piece reflects a listening session and recording documentation at Karavolas`
Beach, which is located in Heraklion Crete. It focuses on the environment’s
subtle, often overlooked everyday sounds—the gentle flow of water, small
debris shifting, and the quiet background of waves, rocks, and wind.
Interwoven with these sounds is the Ave Maris Stella hymn, referring to the
“star of the sea”, evoking themes of origin and distant direction, reaching both
from a distant past and toward the future. The piece captures these reflections,
offering a moment of contemplation on the natural world and the deeper,
symbolic sense of beginnings and purpose.
