Petra Strahovnik by Asko|Schönberg
The Hague is not only ‘rock city’. Many contemporary composers also find fertile ground there. The Royal Conservatoire and the rich music scene in The Hague attract many composers and music lovers from all over the world. A creative breeding ground that is now being put in the spotlight by ensemble Asko|Schönberg. Under the leadership of conductor Greg Charette, the warm relationship with The Hague is examined. Cellist Lidy Blijdorp has been invited as a special guest.
During the concert many senses are stimulated with video, media, movement, soundtracks and of course live music. You will hear brand new, timeless music such as Line by abstract thinker Peter Adriaansz alongside work by young talents from the composition class.
The work Essence by the Slovenian Petra Strahovnik can be heard. As usual, Strahovnik searches for sounds and shapes that defy conventional notions of music, transcend the separation of body and mind and make our minds tremble. Alexandre Kordzaia, active in electronic dance and rap, is also writing new work for Asko|Schönberg. In his spectacular concertino he encourages cello soloist Blijdorp with battle cries, beats and vocalises. Star composer Michel van der Aa translates gradations of red – from carmine to vermilion – into live music and soundtrack in his Shades of Red.
