Svitlana Azarova: Hyperion
Arvo Pärt, Galina Ustvolskaya and Svitlana Azarova are musically connected in militancy. Pärt’s minimalism and Ustvolskaya’s penetrating symphonies reflect the power of art in times of oppression. Azarova’s Hyperion is a manifesto for hope. The Ukrainian-Dutch composer wrote the work as a call for a new world after the destruction of war.
With her new work Hyperion, Svitlana Azarova sketches a future after destruction and conflict. Is music a promise of hope, or a mirror of our deepest fears?
