Svitlana Azarova: Mover of the Earth, Stopper of the Sun
Two visions that changed the world and a declaration of love! Composer Svitlana Azarova, in the shocking work Mover of the Earth, Stopper of the Sun, gives voice to Copernicus’ groundbreaking discovery – that the Earth moves around the Sun and not vice versa.
In Mendelssohn’s Reformation Symphony, charged with the history of ideas, written in 1830 to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the Reformation, traditional symphonic forms are combined with the emotional depth of the new Romantic music, where each instrument has a significant role.
This concert full of revolutionary awakenings is completed with Dvorák’s Cello Concerto, a declaration of love for music and his youthful love Josefina. Here passionate intensity alternates with tender nostalgia, to end on a quiet melancholic note, like a final farewell.
