World premiere by Ukrainian composer Svyatoslav Lunyov on poems by Ukrainian poets Neborak, Andrukhovych, Malkovych, Vorobyov, Semenko, Chubay and Stus in the Winteravonden aan de Amstel festival.

The Ukrainian composer Svyatoslav Lunyov has a completely unique voice. His music can be tranquil and spiritual, but also full of sardonic humor. It is music that leaves you as a listener impossibly untouched. The pianist Antonii Baryshevskyi, our artist in residence this season and winner of prestigious piano competitions, comes to The Hague with the Ukrainian soprano Viktoria Viitrenko. She is a great interpreter of new music and a muse for many composers. They present the world premiere of Fierce January 2023. Lunyov wrote this song cycle based on poems by 20th and 21st century poets. It was an outlet to process his impressions of the war into music, which resulted in an impressive musical diary.
